A UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) is any aerial phenomenon that cannot be immediately identified. The term was coined in 1953 by the U.S. Air Force. Recently, the Pentagon adopted the term UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) to extend the definition to underwater phenomena as well.

Sightings of unidentified objects have been documented throughout human history — from cave paintings to medieval manuscripts. The first documented modern incident was in 1947, when pilot Kenneth Arnold reported nine shiny objects over Mount Rainier in Washington. This report coined the term 'flying saucers' and ushered in the modern era of UFO investigation.

In July 1947 an unidentified object crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. The military first announced a 'flying saucer' but quickly changed it to 'weather balloon'. Investigations in the 1990s revealed Project Mogul — a secret spy program. Many believe the government still hides evidence of alien technology found at the site.

The U.S. government ran several programs investigating UFO phenomena: 'Project Sign' (1947-1949), 'Project Grudge' (1949-1951), and 'Project Blue Book' (1952-1969) which examined over 12,000 reports. In 2017 it was revealed the Pentagon ran a secret program called AATIP (Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program) from 2007 to 2012.

Between 2017-2021 the Pentagon released three authentic videos filmed by U.S. Navy F/A-18 pilots. The videos — 'FLIR1', 'Gimbal' and 'GoFast' — show objects performing maneuvers impossible with known technology. Dozens of military pilots also testified to Congress about UAP encounters.

The 'ancient aliens' theory claims extraterrestrial beings visited Earth in the distant past and influenced ancient cultures. Evidence cited includes the Pyramids of Giza, the Nazca Lines in Peru, Puma Punku in Bolivia and Göbekli Tepe in Turkey — structures some researchers believe display technological knowledge unsuited to their era.

Alongside aerial phenomena, hundreds of cases of unidentified submerged objects (USOs) have been reported. Divers and ship crews report bright lights underwater, objects moving at extreme speeds and emerging from water into air. The Bermuda Triangle remains one of the most mysterious zones, with dozens of unexplained disappearances.

With the discovery of thousands of exoplanets, the chance of life in the universe has increased significantly. The James Webb telescope detected promising signs in the atmospheres of planets in the 'Goldilocks zone'. The Drake equation suggests there could be millions of advanced civilizations in our galaxy alone — leading to the great question: where is everyone? (Fermi Paradox).
